Dear Janet,

I am sorry I missed lunch yesterday! It was a day in which I got “behinder and behinder” and actually needed a nap before the evening activities. Thank you for calling us together!

Mike Chapman

.......................................................................................................................................................................

Hi Mates! I thought I'd send a picture from our last lunch as it's been a while since we did such. Father Mike sent a curious e-mail the next day (read it above). He must have had too many "toddies" at lunch, because a good time was had by all, including him! Janet

I think the photographer had a few toddies too, or is this eye problem of mine getting worse? Seriously, you guys look wonderful, if a little blurry. I miss all of you. Holley

Janet,

You must have taken a lesson from Marilynn! I’m impressed…or “tipsy!” Thank you!

Mike Chapman

Janet, Look at the lens. Is there a really big fingerprint on it?.......... Doug

It was not my camera, think it was Marilynn or Sidney's. Our waiter took the picture and there was not much light, but that should not account for the blur.... Janet

It was taken by the waiter with my iPhone, the only camera on hand. It takes reasonably good pictures. But in Hefner Grill the light is very subdued and throws the camera's sensors off. I've used the iPhone camera twice before in there and all the pictures come out looking a little fuzzy. Plus, you have to have a steady hand, and our waiter was a little rattled after being exposed to such a wonderful group, especially Mike……….. Marilynn

Yeah, Marilynn, I suppose the waiter was rattled. He saw a ghost!...........Mike

The reason Mike needed a nap was because he was being in two places at the same time and that does drain one's energy even if you are a miracle worker…..Sidney

Sidney,

“Beam me up, Scotty!”…………Mike

OKC Lunch Bunch November 6, 2009

Marilynn, Mary Ellen, John, Mike, Holley, Janet, LeDon, Phyllis and Sidney

WOW! We had a really great lunch bunch! Guess who showed up that's never been there before? Phyllis (Smith) Blackwell & Holley Izard! Please come back again! Phyllis, who lives in Norman, said she came because I had said, "If you're not there, we're going to talk about you" !!! We had nine classmates there, even without two of our regulars, Bill & Barbara. They had made other plans..........sooooo.........we talked about them.

At all times, there was a lot of chatter going on - three or four conversations at the same time. Except when LeDon or Father Mike would start a story, everyone else quit talking because their stories are always so funny and interesting. And we believe that some of them are true!

We had a really special time sharing lots of stories. (The people in booths around us enjoyed them also!) Our waiter, Juan, was excellent and invited us to call and reserve "our" booth each month. As I had said previously, we have re-aligned their thinking about elderly people!!!

OK. Above is the picture Juan took with Holley's little Sony camera:

OKC Lunch Bunch 6-8-2009

We met once again at Lake Hefner. We had good intentions of walking down to the lighthouse to have our picture made in front of it, but we were a little sluggish after a great lunch, so we strategically arranged ourselves on the balcony so you could see that there really is a lighthouse in Oklahoma City!!

Mike, Barbara, Sidney, Janet, LeDon - standing - Mary Ellen & Nancy, sitting. We missed Bill & John Paul & Richard Thompson and anyone else in our area who could have been with us. We have a great time. Please plan to join us next month.
Love, Janet

April 28, 2009

Hi 'Mates.........Here's a picture from our last OKC First Friday lunch. Doug and Sue were in town, and we were delighted to have them join us. Doug had our waiter take this picture. In case you don't recognize all of us: Jon Thrash, Sue Smith, Sidney Greathouse, Mary Ellen Davenport, Janet Blankenship, LeDon McAnally, Doug Smith.

We're going to have our June First Friday on Monday, June 8th. Nancy Domjanovich is going to be here, from LA, and she wants to see as many of our classmates as possible. So mark you calendars now for Monday, June 8th. Lets have a good showing for Nancy! I'll let you know the location of the lunch, a little later. We might just meet back here a third time - Lake Side Grill. It's good food, great view of Lake Hefner, and the waiter at "our" table has become rather attached to us! I think we've redirected his thinking about "old people" !!

Hey, I'm sorry this script is not fitting the screen. Hope you can access all of it by dragging your bars. I think is has to do with the length of the picture. (Just make sure you scroll all the way to the right so you can see all of Doug's sweet face!) Take note: All the girls smile w/ teeth showing. All the guys just smile w/ closed lips. Whadayathink that means??!! Let's start some "chats" about that!! (I'm sure Joe & Stu & Ted & John Fred have opinions !)
Later.....................Love, Janet

Hi Again..............We had a great time yesterday. Bill & Barbara, Mary Ellen, Jon, LeDon, Mike, Janet, and Marilynn were the attendees. We sat at a big round table in the corner with windows looking out to the lake. The temperature + the winds were prohibitive for sitting on the deck. We were privy to witness something very special.

When we arrived, immediately outside our window, only a few feet from the water, a female Canada Goose was putting the final touches on her nest. The top layer consisted of down she pulled from her own body. The gander was standing guard about twenty feet away. A few minutes later mamma nestled down in her nest and within about fifteen minutes she stood up and proudly displayed seven eggs she had just laid!! WOW! Good job, we said! So hoping the eggs survive, we're going to be Godparents in 25 - 30 days!!! I'm going to see if I can get one of us to go over each day from April 28th - May 2nd to check on the hatching. I'm attaching the incubation information for anyone that is interested. I'm a nature freak, so this stuff is right up my alley!!

***************************************************************************************************
The family bond begins at the nest. Canada Geese mate for life. In Kansas, they begin to build their nest as early as mid-March. The nest is a large mound of vegetation such as grass and cattail stems lined with down. It is usually located within sight of water. Canada Geese will also use nesting platforms provided by people. If you have a pond and want to make one of these, you can find plans by clicking here. 4 to 7 eggs make up a typical clutch and incubation is done solely by the female. The male (gander) zealously guards the nest and will attack any intruders. Incubation takes 25 to 30 days and the goslings are led to water within a day after hatching.

The OKC Lunch Bunch met in Janet's home Friday, Feb. 6,2009. We had a great time. Lunch began at 11:30 and people didn't begin to leave until 3:00. I didn't get home until 5:45. We had Southwest Soup with chips and guacamole and lots of other appetizers to go with everything. We sat around her big coffee table and visited and ate. For dessert, Janet served a delicious rum cake with vanilla ice cream on top and hot mugs of coffee. Oh, you guys should have been there. It was really fun.

I have three pictures, but am not sure how to attach them. I'll keep trying.
Sidney

I combined my pictures and Sidney's. The ones that are not so clear are the ones taken from my iphone, not the best camera in the world. But, I think you get the idea of what a great time we had.

OKC Lunch Bunch 10-3-08

Hi Classmates,
Our OKC group met Friday at Johnnie's.

We don't have a photo of us cramming sauce dripping hamburgers into our mouths, because we were having so much fun we forgot to take the picture. Lunch lasted nearly three hours, but it's not like we were eating the whole time. We talked about a lot of things, but one thing I liked was when we talked about our impressions of each other back in high school. Some of us were too painfully shy to actually speak to each other in the halls, even though we knew who each other was. I knew Jack Miller was a football player and LeDon was the drum major, but when I turned to Bill Dillon and asked him what he was, we all laughed when he said that he was a retailer!

It seems that Mike has been taking early morning walks along the Oklahoma river early in the mornings. He said that it is beautiful, pristine and quiet and that I should get my bike and ride along the paths. Maybe I will. He made it sound wonderful.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at the reunion the end of this month. The time is going to pass quickly, so if any of you have been on the fence about coming, please show up at=2 0least one of the days if you can't make it to all of them. We really do have a lot of fun laughing, hugging and remembering silly things that happened when we were kids. They say that laughter is the best medicine, but beware, you might get an overdose!

See you in a few weeks,
Love,
Sidney

OKC Lunch Bunch Sept 5, 2008

LeDon, Jack, Jackie, Barbara, Eloise Bentley(not in our class but a welcome visitor), Bill, Janet, John Paul, Marilynn, Sidney, Fred and Richard, the wild dance man, Thompson.
These innocent smiling faces are happy because they were stuffed only minutes before with, tamales, guacamole, chips several sauces, rice, beans, 7 layer dip, salad, Coke, Dr. Pepper, beer, green tea and peach cobbler with ice cream, plus another dish or two that I don't know what to call. After we finished eating and had our pictures taken, Father Michael gave us a tour of his home, the parish, the school and the grounds. We enjoyed seeing where he lives and works.Since there were so many of us, we had a tendency to break into smaller groups for conversation (clumping), so I don't know all of the subjects that were covered. We did talk about where we lived, the up coming reunion, football, some of our classmates like Larna Witt and others we wished we could find and convince them to come, childhood memories living in Ada, Janet remember the Tamale man and his cart on Main street. Someone else remembered him too, but I didn't.All in all, it was a perfect day, warm sunshine, cool shade, good friends and full tummies. Yes, we left smiling and waving and saying, "See you the next first Friday in Oct." No one mentioned it, but I bet most were thinking that they needed to get home a take a little siesta after all that food!
